toasted sesame ginger dressing

This toasted sesame ginger dressing is one of my favorites! I think it was the second homemade dressing I ever made. I was playing with ingredients one night, knowing I wanted a sesame ginger type dressing to go with a Chinese chicken salad.

I love the flavor of toasted sesame oil. It has such a rich deep flavor. And I knew I wanted ginger and soy sauce as well.

I originally called this my Asian 4-1-1 dressing. All the ingredients were in that ratio. I have since changed the recipe, because I thought it was too sweet and the extra honey was not needed.  The ratio is still very simple, you could memorize it, and then just add as much sweetener as you see fit.


4 Tablespoons toasted sesame oil
1 Tablespoon rice vinegar
1 Tablespoon soy sauce
1 Tablespoon fresh grated ginger
1/2 Tablespoon honey


Add all ingredients to a small bowl and whisk until well incorporated.

I usually pair this dressing with a salad that has some of these items:

  • chicken or steak
  • mandarin oranges
  • mango
  • sugar snap peas
  • water cress
  • shredded carrots
  • seaweed
  • sliced almonds
  • crushed peanuts
  • cabbage

Or you can use any combination you can think of. You can also use this as a marinade.
