It is a war between real maple syrup and the Mrs. You know the Mrs.
Not surprisingly, I go for real maple syrup. The kind when you look at the label and the ingredients list there is only one ingredient - maple syrup. It tastes good, it is made of real food, and it is pretty unprocessed.
Now let's take a look at the Mrs.
Her ingredients are:
Corn Syrup High Fructose, Corn Syrup, Water, Salt, Cellulose Gum, Molasses, Potassium Sorbate (Preservative), Sodium Hexametaphosphate, Citric Acid, Caramel Color, Flavors Natural & Artificial
Not a lick of maple in there. Yet that is what #1 prefers. It is the brand he had growing up, and that particular (fake) flavor is one he enjoys.
Do I buy it for him? Sure do. Although I would love our house to be all real food, it is not easy and not always simple. You choose your battles and unfortunately I think this real food battle is one that I will have to take a loss on.
However, if you are looking to make a small, simple change to real food, changing syrups to real maple syrup could be one step.
